Innovation in
Medical Education

TIHCER is excited to announce the release of the first-ever Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) Competencies for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). The Competencies begin to fill the critical gap between the robust research findings linking trauma and health - versus current medical school curricula.

The Trauma-Informed Competencies guide translation of the science of trauma and healing and can be used as a foundation for the creation of aligned competencies for graduate medical education, continuing education, and faculty development.

These Competencies complement the AAMC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Competencies and other Competency Sets toward the goal of health and health equity for all.

Future TIHCER projects include:

  • Expanding the TIC Competencies to Residency training (Graduate Medical Education)

  • Faculty Development to support achieving mastery of Trauma-Informed principles, science and application in patient care.
